never say.
i should have learned by now to not say that i would never do something.
you know that God totally laughs at that. i've always been interested in
homeschooling, but after prayer, it's just never been the right time.
last year, we were seriously considering it for some of our children.
i was excited at the prospect--learning organically and together,
extra time with them to hear their hearts & guide them.
then, we found out we were pregnant with the twins.
they'd be born right before the start of the new school year and i said it,
there is no way we can do school at home this year.
that's how we left it until our state approved a voucher system
that would be really meaningful financially for our [big] family.
our 2 kindergarteners qualified for it already, but our 3 big kids would
need to be in public schools for one year to qualify.
although we could send them down the street to the public school,
we almost immediately knew what was best for our family.
so, we are schooling at home this year via public on-line school.
i'm not thrilled that i'm teaching 3 different grades & curriculum;
one of the beauties of homeschooling is being able to all learn
the same concept at different levels. that's not possible with this,
but other than that, i love having the kids home. i love being next to
them as they learn, exploring concepts with them, digging deeper into
ideas they are interested in & spending so much time with them.
i love it.
i love it so much that i'm almost wishing that the plan
wasn't to be eligible for this voucher next year in order to get them
back to the private school we love so much.
as i've realized though, we'll just see what He has in store.

Love you and love your {big} family. Some years are just plain 'different'. Happy schooling {however it's done}. xo
ReplyDeleteI was meaning to ask you these exact details the other night but forgot. So happy it's going well. I've had plenty of "nevers" and thoughts that things couldn't work out that I'm being proven wrong about right now! :)
ReplyDeleteSteph
yes! i totally said just a few years ago that i wouldn't ever home school. looking back that is totally when God planted the seed and it has grown slowly but surely leading us to now....and we are loving it too! =)
ReplyDeleteLove I know it's not easy and pretty all the time, but you are amazing. Can I have a third of your patience, and love, and gratitude? I am lost in chaos with 2 (TWO).
ReplyDeleteMoving to a third world nations as missionaries was the push for us to homeschool. Always wanted to but it never was the time. So we have a first grader, eighth grader and eleventh grader. Love that my family is in a little cocoon of sorts. Some days are hard but each year it gets easier and more natural. We are nine weeks into our third year home. Enjoying this season as a family.
ReplyDeleteI read your blog all the time- you are so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteVia public on-line school- Which program are you using if you do not mind me asking?
I thought about this so many times. How do you choose the right program for you?
