meet sam.

let me introduce you to another awesome kid of Ekisa and
then i'll give you an update on my birthday wish!

this is sam. he was recently hospitalized for sickle cell crisis and
osteomyelitis.  he underwent two surgeries during his hospitalization
and faces another one in the near future.  sam and his brother, elijah, came
to Ekisa in May 2012.  elijah also needs orthopedic surgery in the near future
to correct broken bones that did not heal properly.
sam is kind of crazy about the movie Up.  according to one of the directors,
emily, he watched in a million and a half times in the hospital and can quote it.
just picture that sweetness: little sam quoting Up!

you guys?  thank you for loving on Ekisa with me. honestly.  every time that a
comment or message comes in and every time i get an updated total i am so
thrilled & thankful.  i [really, really] love these kids, but i love the emilys, too.
i have so much respect for them being in their early 20s & abandoning their lives
as they knew them--and what the world would say was success--and saying YES
to a God-sized vision.  they are doing it.
let us love in action? they are--minute by minute!

they sit at the hospitals, they help the tears, they share the joy, they dance,
they bandage, they teach, they embrace, they mourn, they love.
will you continue to show them that we are for them?
that we are with them?
the total for giving stands right around $5,000!
we need just 76 more people to donate $33 to meet the goal.
the goal is for 286 people to give $33 for my 33rd birthday in order to
cover the average amount of money that Ekisa would spend on medical
bills through the end of this year--$7500.
could you be one of the 76?
