just write.

these peppermint chewy candies and sprinkle covered cookies remind me so much
of holiday time during my childhood.  i remember having these cookies, except the smaller
ones that come in a bag, during snack at school once.  i must have been in first grade.
earlier that day, the teacher had told us that she was leaving to have a baby & we'd have a new
teacher.  at snack time i cried and cried.  i don't really remember why now....or even if i knew
why then. did i really love that teacher that much?  was i terrified of change?  i don't know, but i
remember wanting to go home so much that day.  i'm so thankful that i wanted to go home--
that home was safe, comforting and loving.
i wonder what our kids will associate with home and comfort and holidays.
i mean, i know this holiday isn't about cookies or thousands of lights on a tree or
baking or shiny gifts tied with pretty bows.  i hope they know that, like i read today,
it's about our crushing need for redemption & the ridiculous notion that Hope arrived in
a barn.  yet, i hope they cherish their home filled with love and the comforts associated with
it, too.  how could they even start to know Love anyway if it isn't nurtured here in these
little things added with little moments?

oh, those words are so, so beautiful. hope, born in a stable, lying in a manger, wrapped in swaddling cloth. the word became flesh. God among us. yes, i hope my little ones know this too...and that the comforts of our own home makes them realize how blessed there are. i want them to know that...but, most importantly, i want them to know the real reason for Christmas. thank you for your words

  2. I wonder these same things. What will they associate with home? What memories are the ones that will stick. And I hope the warmest ones do.

    Thank you.

  3. I think that is why we hold traditions so dear to us. It brings comfort of home right back to us.

    Thanks for sharing.
