pen pals.
the girls have had a lot of fun this summer communicating with their
pen pals. it is neat to see them so excited to hear from them & to watch
them share things that are important to them. they are even praying
for their pen pals which is crazy precious to me. now i'm having
dreams of them being life-long friends. visiting each other in college,
going on mission trips together, attending each other's baby showers.
okay, what will be will be, but how fun!
today, we decided to make pen pal boxes. so, i made little labels for the
top of their box and they decorated them. inside is:
cute paper
notecards
stamps
envelopes
labels with addresses printed already
i'm sure we'll add more things as we go. they love to add stickers or tape silly bands onto
their letters. i love that they can pull out their boxes now and just get writing anytime!

i have to take a moment to say thank you for the love and encouragement
yesterday. i actually meant to close the comments on that post, but i know how
encouraging they are to our family & hope they can be to anyone else that may
face the same adversity. i started to respond to each person & then they just
kept rolling in. God used you to re-affirm that, like everything in my life,
this blog is His and He is using it. a humbled thank you.

where do you have pen pals from?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
i just asked on facebook if anyone had kids the same age that would be interested! so, i know the moms, but our kids don't have a chance to know each other--until now. they're from all over the country and even canada! =)
ReplyDeletefun!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a good idea! i had a penpal in malaysia when i was growing up but now that i think about it, i have no idea how that got started. facebook is an excellent idea for finding a pen pal.
ReplyDeletei've been meaning to comment and ask you if you have read the book No Biking in the House Without a Helmet, it's by Melissa Fay Greene and it is about her family's journey with international adoption. She brought home older boys, too, and talks about some of the effect that had on her family. It's a quick read, and I think you would enjoy it.
I really enjoy your blog. My husband and I think that we would like to adopt internationally, after we are done having biological children.
Rebekah
cutest thing ever. emma has a pen pal now, and we are so excited!!
ReplyDeletealso, i didn't comment on yesterday's post because i was very disheartened to see the comments on twitter. i am just so very upset about it, to be honest with you. i was really shocked. i just want you to know that i think what you are doing is AMAZING, and i love your heart.
Love, what a great idea for the kids to do. I would love to do the same thing with my 7yr old. Do you have any advice/steps on how to get started. Does each child have one pen pal? Is there an age that you think is best to start? This is such a great way to build friendships and continue to improve their writing/communication skills. That is very precious that they are praying for their pen pals. Your kids hearts are very much taking the shape of their Momma's - HUGE!!
ReplyDeleteMy girls are loving it too! How many pen pals do they have? I am thinking that I should add some more because they would be happy to get a letter in the mail every day. :)
ReplyDeleteHa...I am 30 years old and I LOVE my pen pals. Of course they're close to my age too, and I've had the pleasure of meeting some. It was the best experience.
ReplyDeleteour 4, 6 & 7 year olds are doing it and all loving it. the 7 year old seems like a really great age to fully get it, but the others love it, too.
ReplyDeleteour girls each have 2 [although anika accidentally ended up with 3, so i'll probably add another for chloe sometime soon.]
so fun! =)
